This meeting will approve the 2012 budget to be presented to a church conference on January 29. If at all possible, all Ad Council members should plan to attend.

Annual Church Conference

Our annual Church Conference is to be held on November 15th at 7:30pm. This annual gathering of the church is meant to be a time to celebrate the past year and prepare for the new. All DGFUMC members are invited to attend. 

This year's church conference will be led by Rev. Dan Facemyer.

2012 General Conference Book Fund

On Thundering WingsRecently 36 retired United Methodist bishops released a statement calling on The United Methodist Church to remove its ban on homosexual clergy. “Once upon a time, it wasn’t there, and it doesn’t have to be there,” said Bishop Don Ott.

The church will have a chance to remove the restriction at our 2012 General Conference. The Methodist Federation for Social Action and the Reconciling Ministries Network are proposing that all offensive language about homosexuals be removed from our Book of Discipline.

In order to convince delegates to insist that church law recognize and respect that we are all created in the image of God, Judy Koptik, a member of First United, has initiated a General Conference Book Fund, with the goal of sending one copy of Ermalou Roller’s book: On Thundering Wings: Homosexuality, Love and the Church on Trial to every delegate of our 2012 General Conference.

Please decide now to be part of this important effort by contributing generously to the fund. Each book costs $16.95.

Administrative Council Meeting

There will be a meeting of the Administrative Council on Tuesday, April 12, at 7:30pm. All church members are invited to attend and participate in discussions, although only members of the council will be able to vote.

Cross and FlameDan Johnson, Chair of Ad Council, is calling a meeting of the Ad Council to approve FUMC’s 2011 budget. The meeting will take place in the Chapel.

All work area chairs and all at-large members of the council, please plan to attend.

Work Area Celebration and Training

Back by popular demand – we have scheduled a Work Area Celebration and Training event for January 24. This year, the focus will expand beyond leadership training to include all members of Ad Council and Work Areas. Roger Curless will again lead us, including worship time celebrating all that is done through the efforts of our work areas and a training session with tips and suggestions for how we can be most effective within our work areas. There will also be time will be included for each Work Area to break out into their group within the meeting. Many work areas may feel this time can be used to cover any business for January.

We will open with a “Soup Buffet” from 6:00 – 6:45PM with the meeting beginning at 6:45 and ending by 9:00.
