Sunday School Registration on Rally Day

On Rally Day, September 11, we invite all families to register for Sunday School over the coming year. We will have tables set up specially to receive registration cards and to direct you to the correct locations for your children. Every family needs to register annually; this is how we collect emergency contacts and allergy information for each child.

Yellow registration cards have been sent out to families who have already registered. If you would like to receive one, please contact the church office.

Onward Bound Volunteer Opportunity

Would you like to become involved in a vital part of our church community? Want to get to know Junior High Kids (your own or other people’s)? Would you like to know what our Confirmation program is all about? Here’s how you can get involved with ourt ransitioning children: Teach! Teaching Confirmation has never been so easy, fun and meaningful all at the same time.

The confirmation program is a rotation model which means that, if you sign up to teach a lesson, you would only have to prepare once and then teach the same lesson for three weeks. Please contact Nick Nicholas if you would like to find out more information or to sign up to be a teacher. We have scheduled a teacher training session on September 8 at 7pm.

Children's Sabbath

BackpackThe United Methodist Women of this church will celebrate an annual event, the Children's Sabbath, on August 28. It is appropriate that this takes place on the Sunday the congregation will be hearing about John Wesley. Mr.Wesley worked to improve the lives of children in England during his ministry. He was opposed to children working in the mines and other dangerous employment. He wanted children to be educated. Over the years, United Methodist Women and the church have been committed in missions and ministry to improving the lives of children and youth. Children will participate in the service. They may bring their school backpacks as there will be a Blessing of the Backpacks during the service.

New Members

We will give you the opportunity to unite with First United Methodist Church, Downers Grove on Sunday, September 25 during the 11:00am Worship Service.

Prior to membership, a Prospective New Member Class will be held at the 1108 Maple Ave. parsonage on Sunday, September 18 at 6:30PM..

Babysitting will be provided upon request. If you would like to be a part of this class on September 18, and to unite with the church on September 25, please contact either Rev. Jim McDonald or Rev. Greta McDonald.

Onward Bound Registration

Claim the NameOnward Bound is the name of our Confirmation Program for students in 7th and 8th grades. We feel it is important for young people to work on developing their faith in such a way that it will become a solid resource for coping with the challenges of life, during the teenage years and, ultimately, for the rest of their lives. The goal of our Junior High Ministry is to build these resources and, in the process, make Disciples for Christ.

The Onward Bound classes will be held on Wednesday evenings this year,  starting on September 21. Information packets have been mailed to all member families with students in 7th & 8th grades but, if you did not receive the packet, please let Sharon Harman know. Registration will be on Wednesday, September 14 starting at 6:30pm, followed by a parent's orientation at 7pm.
