Guide Book & Directory Advertising Opportunity

We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book and Directory for the Church. This book helps us all to know more about our church. The who, what, where, when, why and how of our Church. As last year, the book is being provided at no cost to our Church and again is being subsidized by local businesses who advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and want to find out how to advertise in the book, please call the church office 630.968.7120.

Bingo Prizes

Help! Community Adult Day Care's pantry is running low of prizes for their Bingo games. Needed are small items such as: jewelry, scarves, books, stuffed animals, etc. Prizes received from our church members in the past have been very much appreciated, but the supply is almost gone. Donations can be turned in at the church office.

Thank You!

The Church and Society Work Area would like to thank our wonderful congregation for your generous contributions of cleaning supplies for the People's Resource Center. We filled five pallets with buckets! Cleaning supplies are not always available at the PRC, and these donations will help a lot of families complete their spring cleaning with adequate materials. Thank you so much!

Housing Needed for Visiting Choirs

FUMC will be hosting two youth choirs this summer and host families will be needed for both. Chapel Choir members have enjoyed their experiences with host families during tour over the years, so now it's our turn to provide some hospitality.

The Celebration Singers and Ringers from Church of the Saviour UMC in Cincinatti will present a concert on Sunday, June 10. Overnight housing will be needed that evening for approximately 41 youth and 8 adults.

The Sonshine Choir from Brentwood (TN) UMC will be here Saturday, July 14. They will present a concert that evening and then sing at both worship services the following morning. Housing will be needed for approximately 100 youth.

We are currently looking for housing for the Celebration Singers and Ringers on June 10. If you have available beds please contact Katie Bartholomew or Don Dunham.

Cradle Caring Ministry

The Health and Wellness work area would like to introduce the Cradle Caring ministry. We would like to welcome the newest members of the Downers Grove First United Methodist Church by providing gift baskets to families with newborn babies. This is such an exciting time for families and we wish to provide information about available resources and baptism. Please contact the church office with a due date and/or delivery date of any new babies being born to members of the church. We look forward to hearing about all of the precious new bundles of joy!

Would you like to help with the new Cradle Caring ministry? The Health and Wellness work area is looking for small basket donations. Please drop off any small baskets to the church office. Thank you!

Please Save Your Coupon Inserts

If, like me, you just toss your newspaper coupon inserts into the recycling bin, please bring them to church instead. A couple of "extreme couponers" from Downers Grove painstakingly clip and collate coupons, then go through store ads to get the best bargains. They donate all of their bounty to the People's Resource Center in Westmont. This week alone, they brought in 50 deodorants, 22 bottles of shampoo, and more!

To help them with this mission, please bring your coupon inserts to the box by the PRC collection bin outside the church office. Thanks!

Environmental Studies at DGFUMC and at Home

Environmental StewardshipThe Environmental Stewardship Work Area at DGFUMC took responsibility for an area on the church's grounds over the past year to maintain its landscaping and vegetation. This area (south of the main parking lot between the main entrance and exit) is visible to everyone from Maple Street and is seen as everyone enters/exits the main parking lot from Maple.  Over the past year our group has planted more than a dozen Choral Bells, put down mulch, and ensured those pesky weeds don't overtake the tulips, bushes, or other plants.

Tent Rental Program

The Tent Rental Program is already getting started for this summer. We need students to volunteer to help wipe down chairs used in the past to start the season off right! Come to Youth Group this Sunday, May 6 to help get things rolling. If students are interested in signing up for more dates, please contact Katie (katie@dgfumc.org) or Don Dunham.

Wash and Worship!

For students interested in fundraising for Choir or Mission Trips, we will have two car-washes available this summer.

Sunday, July 8th from 8-11AM and Sunday August 19th from 8-11AM students will wash cars while members of the congregation attend services!

Cool down during the summer heat and earn credits for your trips! It's a win-win!

Stock Sale

Senior High students attending the 2012 Mission Trip to Belle, WV will be selling shares of stock to members of the congregation starting next Sunday, May 13. Students can sign up to sell shares in the Parlor between services. Please contact Katie or JJ to sign up.
