Sunday Worship Service - Visitors from United Church of Rogers Park

This Sunday at all three services, we will welcome Deacon Wes Dorr and lay leader Sabrina Bermingham from the United Church of Rogers Park, our sister church in Chicago with which we have an on-going connection of supportive giving and annual mission trips. We have an additional connection in that former DGFUMC member Rev. Catiana McKay has been the pastor at Rogers Park since 2007.

During worship Wes and Sabrina will share the Message based on Luke 13:6-9 and describe their congregation’s work in the neighborhood including community meals, after school programs for children and their Peace Circle - conversations with teens and young adults that encourage positive choices in their lives.

We hope you will join us.

Piano Dedication - Sunday, November 8

Please join us this Sunday at both the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services as we dedicate our new sanctuary grand piano. Be ready for some spectacular piano highlights! From solos to duets, you won't want to miss out hearing how both ebony and ivory tickle your musical musings!

Hearing Loop System Available on the Main Floor of the Sanctuary

DGFUMC is pleased to provide the Hearing Loop System for use on the main floor of the Sanctuary.

A hearing loop is a wire that circles a room and is connected to a sound system. The loop transmits the sound electromagnetically. The electromagnetic signal is then picked up by the t-coil in a hearing aid or cochlear implant.

Users with a t-coil in their hearing aid can now listen to the service directly through their hearing aids. Please check with your hearing care professional to see if your hearing aid is equipped with a t-coil and properly adjusted. Non-hearing aid users can pick-up a headset to use at the sound board.

To learn more about the Hearing Loop System, please see the flyer below..

Recycle Reminders – Recycle Responsibly

See the document below for some important Recycling Reminders!

Benefits of Recycling

According to the E.P.A., Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is very beneficial to our environment. Some of the benefits include saving energy, saving money, reducing the amount of waste sent to our landfills, and allowing products to be used to their fullest extent.

What you may be surprised to learn is that items such as pencils, counter-tops, bicycles, cookware, jackets, carpeting, bridges, and textiles can be made from recycled items.

Ever wonder what happens to your recycled items after they are picked up by the waste management company? Go to www.countyofkane.org and then click on the Recycling tab under the Featured Links heading. Then you need to click once more on the link titled “What Happens to your Recycling after it is picked up?” Here there is a 13 ½ minute video, that explains the process. You can go directly to this video by copying the following web address into your web browser. http://www.countyofkane.org/Pages/commDisp.aspx?focusID=88

Using reusable shopping bags makes a difference too – and – can save you a little bit of money. Stores including Ultra Food and Target will give you 5 cents when you use a reusable bag. If a store you shop at frequently does not offer this service, suggest it to the manager.

Recycling makes a difference. If you need assistance finding a place to take your recyclable items visit www.earth911.org

Your participation in Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, makes a difference!

Together @ 10... We are ONE Worship Service and Pancake Breakfast

On Sunday, October 25 join us for a special service where the 9:30 and 11:00 services will be combined into ONE service at 10:00 a.m. This is a great time to make new friends, re-connect with old friends and bring guests to visit our church.

This Sunday is also our Choir Dedication Sunday. Each choir (bells, too!) will be presenting special music for the congregation.

Stop by the gym before or after the 10:00 service to continue in fellowship and enjoy a Pancake Breakfast served by the youth. Proceeds help support Youth Ministries.

Please note the 8:15 a.m. service will still be held in Chapel Hall.

September is Hunger Action Month

Food insecurity exists in our Northern Illinois neighborhood. A 2014 study shows the following for the 13 counties (Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will & Winnebago) served by the Northern Illinois Food Bank:

  • Children under age 18 make up 36% of our hungry neighbors, while seniors age 60 and older make up 9%.
  • Among all hungry neighbors, 40% identify as white, 33% identify as Hispanic or Latino and 17% identify as black or African American.
  • 66% of households that use the Food Bank’s services have incomes that fall at or below the federal poverty level.
  • Clients are making tough choices:  77% of households the Food Bank serves had to choose between paying for food and utilities in the past 12 months, and 62% had to choose between food and paying for medicine/medical care in the past 12 months.
