Join us on Palm Sunday, April 9 at our 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services as the Chancel Choir, with guest singers and accompanied by a guest orchestra, presents John Rutter’s long-awaited new major work, The Gift of Life. This six-movement choral work is a celebration of the living earth, of creation and of life itself; offering a kaleidoscope of moods from contemplative and prayerful, to majestic and inspirational.

This service will also include the traditional Palm Sunday children’s processional.

The 46th Annual Chapel Choir Tour will take place March 25-April 1, 2017 and you can help us cover some expenses and Make it Easier to Get to the Big Easy by “sponsoring a bus seat” for $25. The cost of transportation is one of the largest line items in the tour budget, so offsetting some of the cost through seat sponsorships will help reduce the individual tour fee for choir members.

Use the form below to direct your sponsorship to a particular student or have it applied to the tour fund. Forms are also available in the church office and in the west entryway on the poster board.

Make checks payable to DGFUMC and write ‘Bus Sponsorship’ on the memo line.

St. Andrew UMC Immigration Ministries is working with partners Gary UMC, World Relief, and other Syrian groups to hold a fundraising concert for Syrian Refugees on Sunday, February 15. Admission is $10. All proceeds above costs will go towards the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and World Relief. Funds for UMCOR will go towards international relief efforts and funds for World Relief will go towards resettling Syrian Refugees in this area.

Noted area musicians will present works ranging from brilliant and well-loved classical instrumental and vocal works to exciting jazz movements.

Please remember that supplies for the Welcome Kits are due by this Sunday, February 12. You can drop your items off in the church office during between 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. weekdays or bring them to the parlor on Sunday morning. Thank you to all that participated in this project!

World Relief is an organization that partners with local churches to transform communities economically, socially and spiritually, so that the lives of the vulnerable can thrive and grow. As part of their Refugee Resettlement program, World Relief works in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and local church partners to welcome and resettle thousands of refugees referred by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to the United States each year. This year, World Relief Chicago will resettle hundreds of refugees to our area.

Refugees often flee their homes at a moment’s notice. They arrive at a U.S. airport with few belongings, a difficult past and high hopes for the future. An important first step in making them feel welcome is to provide each family with a Welcome Kit. These kits include kitchen supplies, bedding, hygiene and other household items. As we launch our partnership with World Relief to help resettle refugees in our community, DGFUMC has committed to supplying items to complete two Welcome Kits.
